No fun and exciting trips planned this week. Actually, there was supposed to be a really cool float trip in northeastern Oklahoma later this week, but unseasonably heavy rain has postponed it. So instead, I’ll probably spend the entire week here, in the office, editing.
That’s me there in the picture... do you see me? Where the arrow is pointing? Looking longingly out the window... anxious to hit the road? That’s the building where our offices are located: 120 North Robinson, Downtown Oklahoma City, the First National Center. It’s actually a really cool building...
Competed in 1931, it was home to the First National Bank, hence the name. If you walk into the ground-floor entrance on the west side of the building, you are greeted by escalators that at one time would have taken you up to the second-floor lobby of the bank. It’s closed to the public now, but you can gaze up and catch a glimpse of ornate columns and fancy art deco design elements.
This building features all the creature comforts that we modern office-dwellers demand... The ground floor boasts an Italian restaurant, a sub shop, chinese buffet, coffee shop, smoke shop, Hallmark store, Tag agent and many other retailers. It is connected to our parking garage (a couple blocks away), as well as the rest of the downtown area by underground tunnels that have even more retail shops, and the plaza right outside hosts a farmer’s market every Wednesday during the lunch hour! Pretty cool, eh?
Anyway, since I have no other cool destinations to show you this week, I thought I’d give you an idea of what my life is like when I’m not on the road. When I’m in my office, which I share with the Tourism Dept’s other photographer/editor, I’m usually at my desk, on which sits an Avid Media Composer Adrenaline. This is where I edit the segments that I shoot for Discover Oklahoma, as well as other segments that air on other statewide media outlets throughout the week. It’s nice and dark, just the way I like it, but it’s not quite soundproof...yet. I’m still new here, so I’m customizing it to my liking little by little. Before too long, I’ll have my own little oasis to retreat to that’ll get my creative juices flowing!
