Dogs and Kabobs for Kennedy’s 8th

We had Kennedy’s 8th birthday party last Sunday.  I went with the dogs and kabobs theme because K. was getting a dog for a present and she wanted the party to be a cookout.  Three of Kennedy’s friends from her class came and countless relatives, too.  She is such a lucky girl to have so many people care about her.

The kids did all of the usual activities:  swimming, slip n sliding, and jumping on the trampoline.  They also had a water balloon fight and someone gave her a sprinkler that looks like an octopus, so they played in that a while as well.  The cake was in the shape of a hot dog, and Kennedy helped me to make cupcakes with mini-hot dogs on top.  I have to say, the cake turned out well, and it even tasted good.  Walt manned the grill, cooking the hot dogs, chicken, beef and veggie kabobs.  I, of course, also made salsa.  Walt cooked everything to perfection!
Our gift to K. was a kennel for her dogs, Lucky and Buddy, and I think she woke up the next morning at 6:00 to go check on them.  Later, when I went outside, one of the dogs was whining in the pen, and Kennedy was playing outside the pen with the other one.  I said, “Ken, just let them both out to run around.  They’ll be fine.”   She pointed her fingers in the air and gestured, “My eyes can’t look two ways at once!”  She’s really stressing about taking care of these animals!

Thanks to everyone who came to celebrate!  We had fun!

Wonders of wonders one of the dogs went exploring and we couldn`t find it for the whole morning. Kennedy was resigned to the fact she might just have one. He wandered back up when we least expected it.
