Blizzard Watch 2009
Well, we didn’t make it to Lawton for Christmas today as planned; however, we have tried our best to have fun at home. K. and I played chess this morning. We’ve also watched our fair share of Christmas movies (along with the weather updates). Kennedy has gone outside twice, and the last time, Walt and I joined her. I covered a piece of cardboard with packing tape for a makeshift sled. We only stayed out about 30 minutes, but man, was it miserable. The wind blew snow in our faces so hard it hurt; I sound like that new weather girl at Channel 4-”It’s like needles on your face!” She’s said it a number of times already today. Anyway, Kennedy tried to have a snowball fight, but the snow is too dry to pack. Eventually, even K. decided it was too cold and we headed inside for hot chocolate, with lots of marshmallows.
After we warmed up, we decorated dough ornaments. I could only find a star cookie cutter, so we made stars, candy canes, and ball ornaments. The holes for ribbon aren’t very big, so I don’t know how that will work out.
I’ve done two loads of laundry today using my new dryer; it was Walt’s and my Christmas present to each other. Yea, us. Our dryer quit last week, but I really can’t complain about it because we bought in 1994, used, for $150. I do love my new one though. That dry sensor feature is good stuff.
Tonight for dinner, we are having homemade pizza; then, afterward, since Kennedy has been ever so patient, we are each going to open one gift. We’ll open the rest, including stockings, in the morning. I’m a little sad not to be spending Christmas Eve with family, but we made up some new traditions of our own. Hopefully, road conditions will improve tomorrow. Be safe!
